ITINERARY BY DAY

Saigon Street Food Tour By Scooter (D)

Eat your way through Ho Chi Minh City – formerly Saigon – and taste the best street food at night! Meet your English-speaking guide at 06:00 pm, and climb on the back of a bike to immerse yourself in the crazy traffic. Join thousands of other motorbikes as you ride the Saigon streets and your driver takes you through notable neighborhoods, including District 3 where the Saigon locals live.

Stop to enjoy some banh xeo (South and Central rice pancakes), and learn how they are made from a chef with over 20 years experience before riding down Saigon hidden alleyways, where you will encounter old apartment buildings. Go on a short adventure to climb up to the top of some old buildings and see the contrasting architecture between modern and authentic Saigon. You can even visit a local pagoda which was built inside an old apartment by a female monk. Visit the biggest Ho Thi Ky night flower market and soak up the wonderful bouquets. Take a short walk around the area, and get a special gift from your guide.

Next, drive to District 5 and pass Tran Phu street famous for its oil paintings. Stop at a local restaurant to savor some Bún Chả (grilled pork with noodles, Hanoi style), known as “Obama Noodles” after President Obama and Anthony Bourdain tried them in 2016!

Venture into District 10, where the city’s street food scene really thrives. Excite your taste buds with a heavenly dish of coconut ice cream at a shop established in 1975. Watch as the owner prepares some coconut ice cream right before your eyes.

Take a spin around the city for enticing views of the night life, and experience the hustle and bustle of fashion street. Squeeze through narrow alleyways that cars can’t access, and journey along the banks of the Saigon River with a welcoming breeze.

End your food and motorbike tour in District 4, where is known as the best street food location in Ho Chi Minh city and enjoy a seafood meal of 3 different dishes and an authentic food challenge! Try some balut (boiled, fertilized egg) if you dare, and tuck into a nice dessert of flan cake with caramel, coffee and coconut milk. Wash it all down with some special beer, soft drinks, mineral water or homemade Vietnamese sticky rice wine.

The absolute must do in Saigon!

We came to Vietnam to celebrate our 1st year anniversary. Starting in Saigon we did a lot of organized tours, walked through the streets etc and decided to do the Saigon food tour in our last evening. This was probably the experience that we enjoyed the most in Saigon. Just the fact that you get to ride motorbike in the motorbike city alone is already something worthy, but the girls were just amazing!

We were treated like VIP’s, they adapted the tour to our personalities and what we wanted to see /eat. We’ve eaten amazing street food that otherwise we would never have eaten, and also visited many parts of the city where tours usually don’t go. It was really something memorable and We would love to thank our girls for this wonderful memory that we will always cherry.

    Saigon Street Food By Scooter

Four of us did 2 of their tours. We enjoyed both and and learned a lot about Saigon. The first day we took the Exploring Saigon Sights & Saigon Local Street Food tours. We each rode on the back of motorbikes driven by young local women. Saigon streets are packed with motorbikes and riding through the city traffic, seeing shops, restaurants, pagodas, and people gave us a real feel for the Vietnamese city culture. Our guides, Trang and Yen, were fun and informative.

We stopped for street food twice. First we ate the very popular and Vietnamese “crepe” named Bahn Xeo at our first street food stop. Before eating we got a quick look at the recipe and preparation of this tasty treat. Later on the tour we stopped for BBQ “baby bird” and “chicken feet”……fun and very good. The second day we went on the “Karaoke Tour”. Karaoke is popular in Saigon. We began with a “Lau De” dinner which is a really flavorful noodle soup. At the Karaoke bar our guides led us in singing and dancing and generally enjoying an evening at a spot we would never have discovered on our own. We had a great time and would do it again in a heartbeat.

    FUN! FUN! FUN!

We booked our ride with Detoured Asia as a day trip from our cruise which stopped at the port for Saigon. We arranged to meet at the Opera House and both drivers were at the right at place the right time.

We enjoyed every minute of the adventure. Vyvy and Anna took us to all the places we wanted to see and to places they thought we would enjoy. We went to a fine little restaurant and had a great local meal.

This was a fantastic way to see the city and experience it closer to the ground than any organized tour could have pulled off. We were thrilled and excited to share our day with these two beautiful and friendly women.

We returned to our meeting point exactly on time and returned to our ship at Phy My by bus.

Our experience met or exceeded every expectation. The day was pleasant, exciting, not hurried, off the beaten path and reasonably priced. We would recommend these motor bike rides for anyone looking for something different and fun to do in Saigon.

    Must do when visiting Saigon

Had read about these escorted moped tours online and thought if we have time we’ll try it. So glad we did. This was one of the highlights of our Vietnam trip. We used Detoured Asia recommended by the hotel bell boys. Our hosts were Yen and Rey, very knowledgeable and spoke English well. Most importantly they were experienced moped riders who handled the traffic chaos Saigon offers, extremely well. We had mapped out a series of sights we wanted to see and they offered up additional ones we could also do during the 3 hour hire. Cost was approx. AU$75 each which included everything, moped, escort, lunch, entrance fees and afternoon ‘mock-tail’. We thought it was good value. Seeing Saigon from the back of a moped provided a whole new perspective for us and made you feel like you one of the ‘locals’.

Personalized tour with service from heart

I was doing solo traveling to Saigon without much planning & knowledge due to last min arrangement. It was the best thing that I found this Detoured Asia on TripAdvisor when I was in the north of Vietnam. I have called & got many useful advices from the owner who has also personally escorted all my scooter tours in Saigon subsequently. No need to follow big group tour & so every single thing I did was all customized to my preferences. I got chance to see the attractions, eat & do like local people. He even helped me translate & bargain during my shopping time in the market. Avoiding the terrible traffic on bike is a good idea too. Overall, I felt so safe & satisfied. Definitely recommending to FITs.

    Memorable Saigon Food Tour

The food tour with Dao and Yen was definitely one of the highlights of my trip. They made a great first impression by arriving in front of my hotel punctually and with big smiles to boot. Next, they were nice enough to stop by my favorite banh mi place so I could get some food in my stomach. Since this was my first experience riding on a scooter in Ho Chi Minh, they helped put me at ease by engaging in some fun and casual conversation. As traffic whizzed by from all directions, I decided to focus my view on the beautiful surroundings instead. Luckily the ride was not too long and we arrived at our destination shortly.

We arrived at a large gorgeous park that also hosted a multitude of activities. It was no wonder that there were plenty of couples taking their wedding photos there as well as families spending quality time together. Yen quickly went to check on our first activity of fishing, but came back with bad news that we would not be able to participate. This was the one and only downside of the tour given that it was one of the main features and reasons why I wanted to attend. However, they more than made up for it with their fun and engaging personalities that quickly made me forget all about fishing as we toured the park.

Saving the best for last, we eventually made our way over to the dinner buffet area. The spread was absolutely amazing and one dish in particular blew my taste buds away. This was called banh koht and it even managed to replace the undying love in my heart for banh mi. Apparently many others were drawn to it as well because I couldn’t manage to secure any despite repeated trips back and forth to scour for it. We also were able to eat the fish that we would have caught during the fishing part of the tour so that made missing out on fishing easier to swallow also.

Overall, I would highly recommend the tour by Detoured Asia to anyone. Only slight feedback I have is to give the customer a better sense of the agenda ahead of time so that they know what to expect.

The most unforgettable and exciting night tour you can ever have!!

This night tour will be remembered forever, I am sure! Me and my work colleague decided to make something different in Vietnam, and we saw this tour with scooter through the city a good thing to know more about the city, but we were not expecting to be so good as it was!

The rush of the city and the traffic jams just seemed so calm and at peace while we were riding scooter with them. Everything looked so amazing, the culture, the food, the persons..

We were picked up in the hotel at 6pm and we went to see The Post Office and Notre Dame Cathedral, and take some photos (the guide girls take photos for us). At the same place we ate “Vietnamese Pizza” (Bánh Tráng Nướng) and it was so good! 🙂 then we ate another traditional food “Hanoi Chicken Vermicelli Soup”. Later on we crossed the river by using the tunnel, and went to the other side of the river to watch the beautiful city at night. Unforgattable good moments with amazing company!

The tour take around 3 hours and half, but I wish that could take forever, because it is so damn good! I truly recommend!

Thank you Detoured Asia and especially Vy Ha and Tran (our guides) for everything! 😉

The Best Part of our time in Saigon

Our scooter food tour with Trang and Huyen was by far the highlight of our time in Ho Chi Minh. My husband and I had an unforgettable evening seeing the sights of the city on the back of scooters in the capable hands of Trang and Huyen. We saw parts of the Ho Chi Minh city away from the normal tourist routes, and they introduced us to some amazing street food. We had lots of laughs and felt very comfortable with the girls even as we were weaving in and out of the traffic chaos that is Vietnam! Highly recommend spending time with them – it will be an experience you will always remember! Thanks girls! x

    Saigon Foodie Tour By Scooter

We had an AMAZING time riding around with the folks from Detoured Asia in Saigon tonight. The guide and drivers were knowledgeable and extremely friendly, and by the end of the tour, we honestly felt like we were grabbing local snacks with friends, rather than being on a guided tour.

The restaurants were great as well, and they were spaced throughout the city such that we got a great view from the bikes as we rode around, and we went to truly local places where we got a feel for how locals like to hang out and eat together. They also tailor the tour to you – it turned out that we liked several of the bites, so we got to taste extras that we wouldn’t have had that stop not been a favorite. We also happen to be in Vietnam during monsoon season, so to combat the pouring rain, they provided ponchos that kept us dry (except the feet, but what can you do?). I’d definitely recommend the tour to anyone looking for a local experience.

Best and most fun way to see Saigon

I highly recommend using this tour company to make the most of your time in Saigon, while having lots of fun in the process. Could not have asked for the girls to have been any better in any way! We were asked what we wanted to see, where we wanted to go and were treated like VIP’s all the way. We stopped at local places to eat and tried local food that we never would have found (and it was really lovely) I think what I enjoyed the most and what made the day so memorable, is how important it is to the girls that they make your day special and show you the “real” Vietnam and they do it with so much respect.

They are excellent riders and it was an amazing experience to see Saigon from the back of the motorbike and riding through all that crazy traffic! A great experience all round and one my husband and I would highly recommend. Thank you girls 🙂

Excellent scooter tour Highly Recommended !

My wife and I took the scooter tour last night. Excellent tour. We had starters in a local street food market close to the post office. Second course was in the Chinese quarter, beer and a Thai BBQ served on the table top. Next stop was for dessert (fruit smoothies and a duck in egg dish to try). Nothing was too much for the girl drivers. They asked us first what food we wanted to try. It was a pleasure talking to them and learning about their life in Vietnam. Charming girls, excellent presentation, professional driving, not once did we feel unsafe. What ever you choose to do while in Saigon…. do this trip !! you will not be disappointed. Recommended ++++
